The second half of the season is underway and there is no more time to waste for a few teams in the NHL, as the trade deadline approaches and the moment is now to make major deals.
According to Kevin Allen of USA Today, five teams should move quickly to make a trade : the New York Islanders, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings.
"The NHL trade deadline is similar to Christmas in that it’s always better to have your shopping done early."
There is no more time to waste, especially for teams like the Penguins who are running of time to land a top forward that can help make the final push to the playoffs and then, go beyond the first round.
Allen wonders if Penguins GM Jim Rutherford has considered adding Buffalo’s Evander Kane. However, he also suggests the Kings have the prospects to make a pitch for Kane.
As for the Islanders, they need a defenseman and also, a netminder. Allen suggests Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson and Buffalo goalie Robin Lehner as targets. But the Maple Leafs might be shopping for Gudbranson.
Lots of action coming up!
