When you saw that Erik Karlsson had been traded to the San Jose Sharks, you probably thought, well finally. Then you took a look at the return: the Senators receive forward Chris Tierney, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, prospects Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers, a 2020 first-round pick, a 2019 second-round pick, and two conditional picks.

People thought, oh really? The veteran defender has won two Norris Trophies and has led the Sens to within a goal of the Stanley Cup Final, ultimately losing in overtime of Game 7 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2017.

Anyway, Sens general manager Pierre Dorion had nothing but great words to say about the return in the blockbuster transaction but he couldn’t give more details about what took place during training camp.

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports and David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, star forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau  injured his right ankle today at off-ice testing and physicals and might be out four to six months.

Per TSN 1200, the injury looked more than something minor, as he had to be helped out by his teammates. He will likely require to surgery to repair his Achilles tendon. What a blow!

Now talk about a rebuild when some of the key players you have in place might not be able to play until the second part of the 2018-19 season. Dorion mentioned that he believes Matt Duchene and Mark Stone will want to be part of that rebuilding phase in Ottawa…

"Both Matt Duchene and Mark Stone care a lot about this organization. We know that they want the Senators to win. They love it both in Ottawa, and we'll just let nature take its course in the future." - Pierre Dorion

However, it was one of the last questions at the press conference and when asked if Duchene and Stone would lead the rebuild, Dorion had a strange answer... The last words to his answer were "let nature take it's course."

The Sens GM did say he would have more information on Pageau’s training camp injury tomorrow, but as for now it seems like another major blow to the Ottawa fan base.
