The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to take on the Vancouver Canucks tonight, and Mike Babcock revealed this morning a significant change to the lineup - favouring the most recent call-up to the team.
Travis Dermott, 34th overall pick in 2015, was called up from the Toronto Marlies on Friday and he practiced with the team as the 7th defenseman, taking over Martin Marincin's position.
In a surprising move, Babcock elected to push him up into the lineup, taking over Andreas Borgman's spot on the bottom pairing.
This will be Dermott's first NHL game. He has 17 points in 26 games this season for the Marlies, and it was only a matter of time before the Leafs decided to give the kid a chance. He's been on everyone's radar since being drafted, and figures to be a mainstay of this roster down the line.
It will be very interesting to see how he fares in his NHL debut.
