There is an absolutely insane trade rumor involving the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadiens.
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman has just dropped a bombshell of a trade rumor connecting veteran Penguins defenseman Kris Letang to the Canadiens.
First Friedman touched on the fact that there has been a lot of talk linking Letang to Montreal after the rumor of a potential Letang trade broke over the week-end.
Not surprisingly, there was a lot of Montreal conjecture after Letang’s name was reported.
Even more interesting however is the fact that Friedman himself believes there is a legitimate fit for both sides but it gets even better. According to Friedman Letang would likely accept a trade to Montreal.
I could see a trade match and do believe the Canadiens are on his list of clubs he can go to.
The question of course is what would the Canadiens have to give up for a player like Kris Letang? While his history of injuries has likely damaged his value in the eyes of many teams, he remains one of the National Hockey League's elite defensemen when healthy.
The Penguins were linked to rumors involving Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk earlier this season so that could be a potential piece in a trade for Letang. Some pundits in Montreal have even called for Max Pacioretty to be stripped of the captaincy, trading him to the Penguins could solve that issue for the Canadiens as well.
That of course is merely speculation on my part, what the Canadiens would actually give up for Letang at this stage of his career is anyone's guess.
