The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers have made a late night trade.
According to a breaking news report from the Montreal Canadiens official website, the team has traded backup goaltender Al Montoya to the Edmonton Oilers in exchnage for a conditional fourth round draft pick in the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
The move is a curious one if only due to the fact that Montoya continues to recover from a concussion that he suffered earlier in the season. As a result he has been limited to just four games this season, and in those four games has recorded a 3.77 goals against average as well as a 0.863 save percentage.
A relatively minor deal but likely one Edmonton felt they needed to make in order to get some veteran depth behind goaltender Cam Talbot.
