The Montreal Canadiens have lost one of their best players and by the sounds of things he may be gone for a while.
Sportsnet's Irfaan Gaffar is reporting that defenseman Shea Weber, Montreal's star on the blue line, will be shut down by the Canadiens as he deals with a lingering foot injury.
The injury is reportedly the same one that kept Weber out of the line back in November and the lack of progress from Weber in recovery has led to him being sent home by the Canadiens organization.
Considering the fact that this confirms Weber has been trying to work through the injury since returning to the line up, one has to wonder if that may not have made things significantly worse in the long-run by trying to play despite being hurt.
No word on how long Weber will be shut down, but head coach Claude Julien said that it would be "for a bit." Terrible news for a Canadiens team that is currently 7 points out of a playoff spot, and that may be putting it mildly.
