You would think that being a head coach in the National Hockey League is a way for former players to get away from the action on the ice while keeping up with the game. However, during the second period of the third game between the Washington Capitals and the Vegas Golden Knights, one head coach found out the hard way that there is no safe place in an NHL arena when a game is on.

Caps head coach Barry Trotz was hit by a clearing attempt during the second period, and it sure looked like it stung. Trotz got it in the back as he attempted to walk away from the shot. The puck made its way to the Capitals bench and hit the head coach quite hard in the lower back.

Right away, Capitals forward Tom Wilson, who was sitting in front of Trotz when the puck came flying into the bench, asked him if he was okay. Both men just laughed it off, as the Hockey Night in Canada on CBC commentators made the joke that Trotz could now count on "some extra padding in that area."

One thing that surely made the Caps head coach is that literally, moments later, his players managed to score a second goal on Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, to take a 2-0 lead in this pivotal Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final.

Forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, who was a game time decision for tonight's contest with an upper-body injury, scored the second goal for the Caps, and celebrated with his classic bird that flies act.

While the Caps head coach might wake up tomorrow morning with quite the nasty bruise on his lower back, let's hope for him he will have a victory along with it to make sure he can handle the pain a little better.

Some fans on social media applauded Trotz for "staying" in the game. Many of them wanted head coach Trotz to get a blocked shot on his stats sheet for the night.

It sure looks like some head coaches cannot help but get into the action, even after their playing career is long over with...
