Breaking: Devastating news for Nugent-Hopkins and the Oilers

It's worse than we thought.

It was reported on Thursday afternoon that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a bruised sternum, and wouldn't be out for too long. But the official news today is significantly worse than what was previously believed.

He will likely be out for over a month, if not two, effectively putting an end to the majority of his season, and probably crushing any hope the Edmonton Oilers may have had of making the playoffs this year.

While Nugent-Hopkins doesn't make the team, he's been one of their best players this season, and this news is devastating for a team hoping to avoid the fate they've suffered for 10 years straight, barring last season.

Here's the play where RNH was injured on.

It was believed that he'd be okay by the end of the bye week, but further evaluation clearly proved that idea wrong.

Iiro Pakarinen was called up in relief of Nugent-Hopkins - however, he will definitely be unable to fill this massive hole left by the former first overall pick.

Do you think the Oilers should give up on in this season and try their hands at the draft lottery? After all, they've been pretty lucky with it over the years, and there's the player they've been looking for all these years in Rasmus Dahlin.
