The Buffalo Sabres accomplished a rare feat on Saturday night. They beat the Boston Bruins and Tuukka Rask, something no team has been able to do in regulation in over 20 games (as far as Rask is concerned). But the night was marked by a terrible loss, the loss of their best player in Jack Eichel.
He was injured in the play below after taking a hit from Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.
Eichel did not return to the game, and the diagnosis of his injury was announced today by the team's social media.
The last time he suffered a high-ankle sprain, he missed 7 weeks. With 8 weeks left, and the Sabres where they are in the standings, it is very likely that he gets shut down for the rest of the season.
Toronto Star writer Kevin McGran points to the fact that this type of injury can be devastating on an athlete's career, and this is the second time it happens to Eichel.
For the sake of the sport, and for his well-being obviously, everyone wishes for a healthy recovery for Eichel.
