Breaking: Former Leafs defenceman placed on waivers

A right-shooting, depth blue liner… should the Leafs take a shot?

The Anaheim Ducks have placed former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Korbinian Holzer on waivers this afternoon.

The 29-year-old blue liner has played just 14 games with the Ducks this season, going pointless along the way. In fact, since being traded to the Ducks from the Leafs in 2015, Holzer has never managed to play more than 32 games in a season.

Still, he’s a reliable, rugged defender who just happens to shoot right-handed… something the Leafs could use. Could he be a potential depth pick up for the squad? Seeing as how they’re at the NHL contract limit and have a roster crunch with their forwards, it seems unlikely. But, they don’t call Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello “Loop Hole Lou” for nothing…
