At noon today, it was announced that the Montreal Canadiens claimed the only player on the waiver wire over the last 24 hours from the Anaheim Ducks.
Logan Shaw has played 150 games in the NHL, and has only 25 points to his name, playing most of the season thus far with Anaheim.
The news was originally hilarious because they already have a Shaw in Andrew Shaw, a player general manager Marc Bergevin overpaid for over a year ago.
The news took a turn when it was reported that Andrew Shaw sustained an injury against the Boston Bruins on Saturday night, and is out indefinitely. He will be re-evaluated in a minimum of 7 to 10 days, but there's no timetable for his return.
So as a result, MB took a penny, and left a penny, so to speak. One Shaw is out, so he went out and acquired a new one.
Fans have been clamouring for Bergevin to acquire a centre, and it appears they found him...
PAUL MARTIN ON WAIVERS
Martin is reportedly being shopped, and it was believed that he'd be placed on waivers in the next few days, but it happened earlier than expected. With nearly $5 million on the cap for another year, it's very unlikely anyone plucks him off the waiver wire, certainly not the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But perhaps a trade is made with retained salary tomorrow after he goes unclaimed.
