It is tradition or almost: the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs face off Saturday night in the last regular-season game for both respective teams, as they do almost every year now. The Habs usually host the Leafs at home for their opener, and now on Saturday, Toronto will host the Canadiens for one last battle this season.
While it may be the last time the two clubs meets this season - and they won't in the playoffs since the Canadiens weren't able to clinch a berth like the Maple Leafs were able to accomplish - there will still have to be discussion between the two teams after an incident took place this morning during practice.
As the Canadiens took the ice to practice in Toronto, forward Daniel Carr managed to break one of the pane of glass in the complex. Not only with the Habs practice need to stop and resume later, but now we are pretty sure the Canadiens will get a bill from the Maple Leafs.
As NHL insider Pierre LeBrun pointed out on Twitter:
Just minutes prior to the incident, Habs star goalie Carey Price was on the ice for the morning, which leads many to believe that he will get Montreal's finish start in goal tomorrow night against the Leafs.
NHL writer Arpon Basu pointed out that Price had to mingle with fans as the Habs had to change rinks at Leafs practice facility. Carr's glass-breaking shot caused a lot of chaos in the complex, but fans got to get a few photos in the meantime.
Last night, Nicolas Deslauriers' second goal put Montreal ahead late in the second period and they held on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Thursday night. They will surely hope to keep going and end the embarrassing season on a high note with another win against the Maple Leafs.
Good thing Carr broke a pane of glass and not a mirror because it is apparently seven years of bad luck if you do. And after the disastrous season that went down in Montreal, the club and the fan base cannot handle six more years of bad luck and mediocrity...
Pay up, Habs! The Leafs might need the money in the end with all their young stars players to re-sign!
