The Chicago Blackhawks have reportedly had enough and made some interesting changes to their lineup ahead of tonight's matchup against the Ottawa Senators.
In practice today, defenseman Brett Seabrook remained on the ice after the skate, while the other six blue liners were in the room. Then, it was made official: Seabrook is a healthy scratch tonight against the Sens.
Fans were quite unhappy with the defender's performance in the recent weeks, especially because of his hefty contract. In 41 games, Seabrook just has 11 points this season and is on target for his lowest, non-lockout production since 2008-09.
What does Seabrook have to say?
Seabrook was not happy about head coach Joel Quenneville's decision after the skate, but knows he needs to be more consistent for games to come, as they also became more meaningful for a potential playoff run.
Let's hope he returns to better performances and can eventually help boost the team's impotent power-play production. Because that's a lot of money sitting in the press box...
A trade in the works?
Of course, following the move, rumors sprung rapidly.
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun was quick to clarify that neither the Hawks of Seabrook was looking for a trade. The star defenseman remains a big part of the Blackhawks' future and just needs to get back to his old ways.
