The Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, have announced that they've loaned top prospect Timothy Liljegren to the Swedish National hockey team ahead of this year's edition of the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Originally a top 5 prospect in the 2017 NHL entry draft, Liljegren fell to the Leafs at #17 and they couldn't be happier. He immediately signed an entry-level deal and reported to the Marlies. It's rare that a player can report straight to the AHL out of their draft year, but given that he comes from overseas, the rules allow for it.
The Swedish prospect has 9 points in 17 games and is reportedly adjusting well to the North American game. The Leafs have a very bright player coming up through the ranks - it'll only be a matter of time before he's an NHL regular.
