We want to put his out there now, because we have no clue if we will be asleep when the trigger gets pulled. After all, that’s exactly what happened less than a few days ago when the Montreal Canadiens shipped captain Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights in the middle of the night. The Ottawa Senators might decide to do the same with their captain…

According to The Fourth Period’s editor in chief David Pagnotta, the trade rumors involving Erik Karlsson have reportedly intensified in the last 24 to 36 hours. With training camp just around the corner, Pagnotta believes this time it might actually take place… He adds that one team has upped its offer.

Whether a deal materializes between now and then remains to be seen, but negotiations are “ongoing” and TFP has learned at least one team recently upped their offer for Karlsson.

NHL insider Darren Dreger recently reported that a significant offer had been made for Karlsson, though nothing had resulted from it. Who knows, maybe that same team has up the ante in hoping to land the all-star defenseman ahead of the season?

On Monday, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun added heat to the chatter by revealing that other teams had entered the mix. It is possible that one of these new suitors has offered something unexpected to Sens GM Pierre Dorion, who is getting closer to moving his captain.

LeBrun also added that, despite trading for Pacioretty, the Golden Knights were still in the mix for Karlsson, who might be more and more persuade to pursue his career in Vegas.

As of matter of fact, it is believed that the Senators are looking for a similar package to what the Canadiens received for Pacioretty – a current NHL player, a top prospect and a high draft pick.

Senators fans are certainly getting ready for a major overhaul especially after the bizarre video released by the team last night. In a pre-produced five minute long video segment, Sens defenceman Mark Borowiecki sat down with owner Eugene Melnyk to discuss the current state of the team and ownership’s plan for the future.

“That’s what our rebuild is going to be. This coming year, we’re going to have 10 out of the 22 players [that] are going to be new – meaning they are either rookies or maybe they played under 10 games last year. And then the following year, it’s going to go up to 15 of the 22 – maybe 16. So that’s a total turnover – which is what exactly should be in a rebuild.”

While it sure looks like it will be a rough ride for the Sens once again in 2018-19, a potential imminent trade for Karlsson could be a good start to the rebuild.

Stay tuned…
