When James van Riemsdyk scored the 20,000th goal in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 100 year anniversary game, no one seemed to have known. JvR continued the game with the historic stick that scored the milestone goal, eventually breaking it later in the game and having it thrown out in the trash.

Fortunately, once it was realized what had transpired, the stick was found before it got sent to the landfill, and will be preserved in the Hockey Hall of Fame, along with the puck that found the back of the net for the 20,000th time in franchise history.

“A special thanks to the staff over at the Air Canada Centre for helping the Hockey Hall of Fame recover this important part of Toronto Maple Leafs history," Philip Pritchard, hall of fame curator, said as reported by the Toronto Star's Mark Zwolinski.

Look for the display sometime after New Years.
