There are talks that a trade was set in motion a couple days ago involving the Pittsburgh Penguins, but Jim Rutherford was unable to complete it as the holiday roster freeze kicked in.
From the sounds of it, the trade will likely transpire when the freeze is lifted on December 27th at midnight.
As Kris Letang and Ian Cole headline as Rutherford's most likely trade assets, there's serious reason to believe that one of them will finally be on their way out imminently. Rutherford pointed to a major trade occurring, and he acquired Jamie Oleksiak to stopgap the impending loss of a defenseman, as most believe.
Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman spoke Saturday night about the possibility of Letang or Cole being traded - and all signs point to one of them being on the way out as soon as New Years.
Possible trade targets include Alex Galchenyuk, Max Pacioretty, and Evander Kane. Of course, some trades come completely out of left field and the parts of the deal can be completely unexpected - at this point, any team in the NHL could be involved.
