The Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced this morning that it has recalled defenceman Alex Gudbranson from their ECHL affiliate the Orlando Solar Bears.
The 23-year-old Gudbranson is the younger brother of Vancouver Canucks defenceman Erik Gudbranson, who has been linked to the Leafs in trade rumours for months now. Could the sudden promotion of the younger Gudbranson point to a bigger move to come?
Like his older brother Erik, Alex is a right-shooting, defensive defenceman with a bit of a mean streak to his game. The 6’2”, 216 lb defender has two goals and eight points in 23 games with the Solar Bears, but has managed to play 52 games at the AHL level in the Leafs and Minnesota Wild organizations.
