After an amazing Cup run with the Vegas Golden Knights last season, enforcer and fan favourite Ryan Reaves has been ready for more for 2018-19.

The Golden Knights locked up Reaves on a two-year contract one day prior to the NHL’s free agency period opening. Some teams were reportedly willing to offer Reaves a three-year deal, but Vegas matched the money on a shorter term.

However, on Friday, during his first skate of training camp, Reaves suffered a serious injury on the ice. According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, Reaves left the ice after being cut to the face. While LeBrun did not see exactly what took place and how it happened, he noticed that Reaves headed straight to the dressing room for repairs, leaving a train of blood on the ice…

It is believed that Reaves took a skate to the face during a scrimmage.

Many pundits at the arena for the Golden Knights’ first practice of training camp posted on social media different pictures of the blood left on the ice by Reaves.

The players kept going on the stained surface no matter what, and held the post-practice stretch circle just a few steps away from the blood.

Reaves split the 2017-18 season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Golden Knights, totalling four goals and six assists in 79 games. He added two goals in 10 playoff games with Vegas.

As for now, no update were given on the condition of Reaves or the type of repairs he needed after the injury took place. We all know Reaves is one of the toughest guys in the league, and could be back sooner than later despite a gruesome injury.

UPDATE: Head coach Gerard Gallant met with media after practice to inform them that Reaves indeed took a skate to the face, but he is reportedly fine. What a warrior.

The good news for the Golden Knights is that new comers Max Pacioretty and Paul Statsny were present for their first practice with the club. According once again to LeBrun, Pacioretty and Stastny have been paired up all day during practice. It is believed that the plan is for them to obviously start as linemates.
