The return of the Nordiques?

A National Hockey League legend made a bold statement today and news that has broken since he made it makes it seem that much more credible.

Boston Bruins analyst Jimmy Murphy is reporting that he spoke to former Chicago Blackhawk, Boston Bruin and New York Ranger legend Phil Esposito recently and that Esposito informed him the Ottawa Senators would be relocating to Quebec City.

Now what makes that prediction so surprising is that according to Murphy it was made prior to the comments made by Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk this evening, comments that were a clear threat of relocation to the City of Ottawa and the Senators fan base.

While it would be great to have a hockey team in Quebec City once again, fans in Canada would likely be a lot less happy if it came at the expense of another Canadian franchise.

Not to mention that over the last 10 years the Ottawa Senators have arguably been the most competitive franchise in Canada with some solid playoff runs including an Eastern Conference Final last year and a Stanley Cup Final back in 2007.
