In last night’s 6-5 win for the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Colorado Avalanche, Avs defenseman Erik Johnson delivered a brutal slash onto the arm of Bolts forward Vladislav Namestnikov and then cross checked him head first into the end boards.
Check it out:
It was a RIDICULOUSLY dangerous play by Johnson, who earned 17 penalty minutes on the play, including a game misconduct. Less than 24 hours later the NHL has come down with a two game suspension on Johnson for the hit.
What do you think? Is this a fair punishment. Given that Namestnikov was so vulnerable on the play and that Johnson showed no regard for his opponent’s body, we were expecting a 4 or 5 game suspension out of this. What’s your call?
