A particularly vicious and dirty play transpired on Friday night while the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals squared off in a vicious battle of wills.
T.J. Oshie and Kris Letang got tangled up by the boards at one point, and the Capitals' forward took exception and two-hand slashed the Penguins' defenseman right in the neck. Several other cross-checks to the neck area ensued.
This kind of play probably warranted a suspension, but the NHL Player Safety Department ruled differently on the play.
