Many fans speculated last night that Arizona Coyotes goalie Antti Raanta was on his way out of the desert, in a possible trade, when he didn't start the contest last night against the Dallas Stars. However, it was more serious than that.
The 28-year-old was involved in a minor car accident prior to Thursday’s game but was not injured, according to the team. He still served as backup, but did not sit on the bench for precautionary reasons.
Coach Rick Tocchet said he learned of the accident at about 4:30, roughly 2 1/2 hours before the start of the game.
The goalie was clearly shaken up, but avoided serious injuries.
There is good news after all.
In 28 games this season, Raanta has registered a 2.56 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.
