Breaking: Oilers recall Brossoit from AHL

Uh oh… what does this mean for Talbot?

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled goaltender Laurent Brossoit from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

Brossoit is expected to back up veteran Al Montoya tonight as the Oilers host the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Place. This means that starter Cam Talbot has been ruled out, with no timeline for his return. In other words: Not good.

After being waived by the Oilers following the Montoya acquisition from the Montreal Canadiens, Brossoit has managed a 3-3-2 record with the Condors. He’s put up a stellar 2.65 GAA and .916 save percentage. Because he cleared waivers once this season and has not been with the Condors for more than 30 days, he will not need to be placed on waivers once Talbot returns.

As for Talbot, Oilers head coach Todd McLellan would only say that his starting goaltender is dealing with an illness and not a serious injury. Again, no timeline for his return but it doesn’t appear to be serious.

Puck drop is 7pm tonight at Rogers Place. Go Oilers, go!
