Winning the Stanley Cup might be the ultimate goal in the National Hockey League, however, when you're 27 years old, you want more and another chance to hoist the prestigious trophy.

As an unrestricted free agent this summer following his Stanley Cup triumph with the Washington Capitals, veteran forward Alex Chiasson was looking to play some more in the NHL. He finally managed on Monday to convince the Edmonton Oilers and general manager Peter Chiarelli to give him a professional tryout agreement right before the opening of training camp.

The team has made it official on social media:

This would be the fifth team for Chiasson in his career. So far in the NHL, the veteran forward has tallied 59 goals and 124 points in 381 NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames and Capitals. Chiasson has been a full-time NHLer for the last five seasons and averaged about 11 goals and 13 assists in that stretch.

He managed to sign a contract with the Caps a day before the kickoff of the 2017-18 season last October.

Chiasson had two points (one goal, one assist) in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games for Washington last season. The 27-year-old had 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in 61 regular-season games.

He could become a good option for the Oilers up front, as he can add a bit of scoring punch to a fourth line. He has a good size at 6’4 and 210, which will also add some grit to the Edmonton roster. There will be hefty competition at camp, but this usually gets the best out of the players. The Oilers will surely benefit from it after one tough season.

Last season, nine players entered training camps on professional tryout deals and managed to land work and Chiasson was amongst them as he managed to convince the Capitals to take him on before the start of the season.

He do pull off the same move with the Oilers and make it all the way to a one-year contract with the team after a tough battle during training camp.
