The 2018 Winter Games hockey opener was not only unfortunate for the Olympic Athletes from Russia because they lost 3-2 to Slovakia. It was also a bad one due to a questionable dangerous hit that was given by one of the Russian players, a former National Hockey League defenseman.

Nikita Nesterov, who returned to Russia at the start of the 2017-18 when he was not re-signed by the Montreal Canadiens, could receive a suspension after he hit Michal Kristof in the face. The 24-year-old blue liner caught Kristof in the head with an elbow, and his hit is expected to be reviewed.

Nesterov was not assessed a penalty on the play that you can see here:

In 132 games in the NHL, with the Tampa Bay Light and the Canadiens, Nesterov registered nine goals and 33 points, and added 81 penalty minutes to his record. This year with the CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League, the young defender managed to record three goals, 19 points and 41 penalty minutes in 42 contests.

We will have to see if thus dangerous and dirty hit will cost him a game at the Winter Games!
