Terrible news.

The Pittsburgh Penguins took on the Washington Capitals on Friday night in what would turn out to be an exciting back and forth game, which saw Pittsburgh run away with it in the 3rd period to take a 7-4 victory.

It wasn't all good news, however.

Described as one of team's best players by Matt Murray post-game, it was announced that Patric Hornqvist, who suffered an injury during the game, would not make the trip to New Jersey tonight.

"He’s one of our best players, but I’m not going to speculate," Murray said after the game, as reported by Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I don’t know anything about his injury. Horny, for sure, is one of our best players."

It's clearly an arm or shoulder injury - expect for it to be labelled as an "upper-body" injury with no other explanation, though.

The Penguins hold a one point edge over the Devils in the standings, but the Devils have 3 games in hand, so the lead is precarious, to say the least. A win tonight would go a long way in reducing the potential point gap between the two teams.

Puck drop is at 7pm tonight.
