Zac Rinaldo of the Arizona Coyotes was at the centre of a disgusting sequence of plays where he laid a high hit on Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon, sucker punched an unsuspecting Samuel Girard, and caused an on-ice brawl.
The NHL has contacted the repeat offender, preparing to throw down the rule book on him.
An in-person hearing occurs when the NHL is planning on suspending a player for over six games. Radko Gudas of the Philadelphia Flyers had a similar fate back in November after a vicious slash - he received a 10 game suspension for his offense.
Rinaldo has been suspended multiple times by the NHL and the AHL, and this next suspension will likely reflect that fact. Most fans are calling for him to be kicked out of the league. They may have to settle for a very lengthy suspension that will keep him out for a big chunk of the rest of this season.
