An already abysmal season has been rendered even worse with the news that defenseman Zach Bogosian will undergo hip surgery, effectively ending his year with the Buffalo Sabres.
His 4 to 6 month recovery period hopefully puts him in shape to return by training camp for the 2018-19 season.
The former 3rd overall pick in 2008 hasn't lived up to expectations, especially not after being acquired from the Sabres in a trade with the Winnipeg Jets.
The 27-year-old has only played 18 games this year, with only a single assist to show for it.
He made his season debut in December, after dealing with injuries for the first couple months of the season.
This season-ending injury occurred in practice while battling with Evander Kane for the puck. He was originally expected to be out for 4 to 6 weeks.
What an awful way to end a season.
