The shocking story straight out of the Ottawa Senators dressing room and entourage have been hard to digest for many people out there. A series of allegations made by the wife of captain Erik Karlsson against teammate Mike Hoffman’s fiancée now threatens to upend the team’s dressing room, however, there are other victims of such bullying out there that have also been affected by this report.

On Tuesday an absolutely wild story engulfed the Senators and consumed a large portion of the attention in the hockey media. The story began when comments made during a sworn statement in court by Melinda Karlsson were made available to the public. The comments outlined a pattern of abusive behavior and harassment that had been occurring over the better part of a year, harassment at the hands of a woman identified as Monika Caryk, which is indeed Hoffman’s fiancée.

“Monika Caryk has uttered numerous statements wishing my unborn child dead,” said Melinda Karlsson, amongst other very insulting and hurting comments.

Hoffman has denied the accusations being made against his significant other.

“There is a 150 per cent chance that my fianceé Monika and I are not involved in any of the accusations that have been pursued (that are) coming our way,” said Hoffman on Tuesday. “We totally understand there’s no place for cyberbullying.”

Other wives of former players have also come forward, and different sources have revealed that Senators management were aware of this awful situation before the end of the season.

On Friday, the Sportsnet network took the brilliant opportunity to share an important message on cyberbullying with a touching post on social media. Friday is the Stop Cyberbullying day and the entire staff at Sportsnet decided to make a fearless statement on this by showing to sports fans the type of messages sent to on-air talent.

"Social media should be used to generate respectful and civil debate and discussion. Cyberbullying is a serious concern. It's not cool, not tolerated and ."

The people reading the hateful messages are left speechless and shocked.

Cyberbullying is not an option, and has never been one. Bullying is not an option.

According to James Duthie of TSN, who is also from Ottawa, there will be more coming in this story as it seems more have occurred off the ice, as he stated on TSN1050 on Thursday afternoon .

"There may be more coming from the Ottawa Senators, something off ice as well. I would never put this out there unless there was something to it," said Duthie.

This has to stop. And not just for Karlsson and his wife, but also, for anyone out there who is a victim of bullying.
