The Edmonton Oilers have made an important announcement, tonight. The team has inked 25-year-old forward Ty Rattie to a one year deal. National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed that this deal is worth $800,000.

The team confirmed the news on its official Twitter account:

"The Oilers have signed Ty Rattie to a one-year contract. The 25-year-old forward from Airdrie, AB appeared in 14 games with Edmonton this season, posting nine points (five goals & four assists)."

It looks like Oilers' fans are pretty happy with the fact Rattie is staying with the team for one more year. Here are some of the tweets we found just minutes after the news broke:

"Good job Chia - Good call"

"He earned it. Cheap option for next year whether he plays on any line in the NHL, or in the AHL depending on how he performs."

Rattie made his Oilers debut on February 25, just the day before the trade deadline. He played just 14 games with the tean this season, but was still able to amass five goals and four assists, for nine points. He spent most of the past seasons in the American Hockey League, with the Chicago Wolves (St. Louis Blues) and the Bakersfield Condors (Carolina Hurricanes).

Here is the official press release from the Oilers:
