The Toronto Maple Leafs organization has announced that they've signed a defenseman to a professional tryout agreement for their American Hockey League affiliate team.

The Toronto Marlies' defensive depth is weakened with Timothy Liljegren loaned to the Swedish national hockey team for the World Juniors tournament.

Travis Dermott has missed the last couple of games with what appears to be an unreported injury - he is a top-pairing defenseman on the Marlies so it is very unlikely that he was a healthy scratch.

With the injury to Nikita Zaitsev on the Leafs' roster, Martin Marincin was called up as a 7th defenseman, further weakening the Marlies' blue line.

Matt PetGrave (quite the name, we might add) is a member of the Brampton Beast in the ECHL - the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate organization. As he has no contract with the Canadiens themselves, he was free to sign a PTO with the rival organization.

With 16 points in 23 games, he is the highest producing defenseman on the Beast.

Below are two impressive highlights from PetGrave - a huge hit on Erik Gudbranson, and a beautiful goal.
