It's officially February and the trade deadline is only weeks away, but good news for several NHL teams out there looking for an offensive boost, there are a few new names that have joined the TSN’s Trade Bait board on Thursday.
TSN's Frank Seravalli reports that Carolina Hurricanes centre Derek Ryan and Maple Leafs winger Nikita Soshnikov.
The Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers are said to be on the market for help up front and could be quite untreated in Ryan, who is slated to become a free agent this season.
The 31-year-old centre is on track for 19 goals and 45 points centreing Carolina’s third line. He is also 11th in the league in faceoff win percentage (56.3) among centres with a minimum of 300 draws taken.
As for Soshnikov, the Leafs are one of three teams at the 50-contract limit. He is not a top forward, but could fill a hole on the third or fourth line of a team, to add some depth.
This is good news for clubs on the haunt for help on the offense right now. For the last few weeks, the one name that has been heard the most in trade chatter has been Evander Kane's. The two new forwards on the block are certainly not the same kind of player, but could always help teams get a cheaper boost ahead of the deadline.
