Breaking: Veteran Swedish centreman placed on waivers, contract to be terminated

His NHL career is about to end in a pretty unceremonious way.

Most of us were expecting some exciting news from the Toronto Maple Leafs today involving forward Nikita Soshnikov, but with Lou Lamoriello cleverly using the CBA's rules to his advantage, he bought himself some time, and took away what should have been a trade or waiver placement for us to digest.

Instead we'll have to settle with the news that the Anaheim Ducks have placed big centreman Dennis Rasmussen on the waiver wire today at noon.

Rasmussen, 27, appears to want to part ways with the Ducks and head back to Europe - and likely to his home country of Sweden to continue his hockey career.

The undrafted 6'3" centreman played 139 games split between the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks, collecting 21 points in his tenure.

Here's one of the most memorable moments of his short NHL career - although he probably wants to forget it.
