On Tuesday, the Chicago Blackhawks placed netminder Jean-Francois Berube on waivers, and as many expected, he was left there until the noon deadline today as no rival club has decided to claim him off the wire.

The 26-year-old goaltender has struggled mightily this season with the Blackhawks, posting just two wins in 11 starts during starter Corey Crawford’s absence. Berube’s inflated 3.93 goals against average and .891 save percentage are amongst the worst in the entire NHL, so it’s not a big surprise to see him on waivers.

On the other hand, with Crawford out long-term and Berube on waivers, many fans believed that the Hawks' only option in net would be Anton Forsberg and Jeff Glass. However the Blackhawks surprised everyone on Wednesday, but making an unexpected call-up from the American Hockey League. A move that took place as Berube as assigned back to the Hawks' farm club, the Rockford Icehogs.

Chicago announced that goalie Collin Delia has been recalled from Rockford.

The 23-year-old has yet to play a game in the National Hockey League. The young goaltender compiled a 14-6-4 record, a 2.68 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in 24 games with the Rockford IceHogs this year. He also leads all AHL rookie netminders with 14 wins. He has been on a hot streak,  going 7-0-1-1 in his last nine games dating back to Feb. 18. Delia signed a two-year deal last July after attending the Hawks’ prospect camp.

The Hawks had to swallow tough news as Crawford missed a huge chuck of the season. Crawford hasn’t played a game since December 23rd, 2017 and in fact has only taken the ice to practice a few times since. When Crawford went down just two days before Christmas, he had an outstanding 16-9-2 record, a 2.27 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. It’s clear that he’s been missed.

The Hawks have just five games left to the regular calendar and have already been eliminated from playoff contention for the first time in nine years. They currently sit in 25th place in the league's standings with 72 points. They face off against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night, and it has not been determined who will be the starting goalie for the contest.

Delia could get his shot at his NHL debut!
