Multiple reports online this morning indicate that Edmonton Oilers and former Ottawa Senators scout Vaclav Burda has died at the age of 45, the result of a fatal car crash.
This, according to a report from European hockey insider Szymon Szemberg:

More awful news this morning. Former Sens Director of European Scouting 2008-2017 Vaclav Burda passed away at age 45. Burda was with organization for 13 years. Claesson, Jaros, Lehner, Silfverberg, Zibanejad among those drafted during his tenure.
As mentioned above by The Sporting News’ Murray Pam, Burda was the Senators’ former Director of European Scouting for nearly a decade from 2008-2017. Altogether he was with the organization for 13 years and was the driving force behind the team’s drafting of European players like Patrik Claesson, Christian Jaros, Jakub Silfverberg, Robin Lehner and Mika Zibanejad.
Burda, reportedly was also a driving force behind the Senators' drafting of superstar captain Erik Karlsson.
Dorion credits the club’s European scouts — Anders Forsberg, Vaclav #Burda and Mikko Ruutu for first selling Karlsson to Dorion. #RIP
The 45 year old native of Prague, Czech Republic was an accomplished pro defenseman before embarking on his scouting career, playing 11 seasons of pro hockey in the Czech Extralig and Swedish Elite League from 1990 until his retirement in 2002. Burma was a mainstay of Sparta Praha’s blue line throughout the 1990s with whom he captured a league championship in 1992-93.
Burda was hired by the Oilers just over a calendar year ago as the team’s Director of European Scouting. The Oilers’ 2018 7th round selection, Finnish center Patrik Siikanen and the team’s 2017 4th round selection Ostap Safin were both drafted under Burda’s watch in Edmonton.
Rest in peace, Vaclav Burda. Gone, but never forgotten.
