The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that defenseman Nikita Zaitsev has suffered a lower-body injury and has been placed on injured reserve.
Zaitsev will miss at least a week of action, with Martin Marincin being called up. It's a curious decision as Zaitsev plays the right side while Marincin plays the left side.
Marincin has 7 points in 18 games down in the AHL. It's unclear if he'll actually slot in the lineup, with Connor Carrick having been a healthy scratch as of late.
