The Boston Bruins were hoping to make it past the second round of the postseason last spring, however, the Tampa Bay Lightning got the better of them. The Bruins surely want to make sure it does not happen again, and it seems like they are looking at the trade market to ensure they can be a long-run contender moving forward.

According to NHL insider Darren Dreger, who was on the air of Ottawa’s TSN 1200 on Tuesday, there are a lot of trade rumblings being heard in Boston and it seems like Bruins general manager Don Sweeney could be looking to add another piece as the team can count on a great depth up front.

“It is relatively quiet around the league. I’m hearing rumblings around the Boston Bruins,” noted Dreger. “But nothing that’s hot or front-burner, as Cliff Fletcher used to say. It’s more that the Boston Bruins, they have an abundance of good, young forwards. For the Bruins to be as good as they were last year, or even better and contending, then they feel like maybe they’ve got to add another piece.”

While the Bruins can count on depth up front, it seems like they don’t have the right piece down the middle and only a trade could remedy that.

“I’m hearing that they could be in the market for a centerman. Is that a third-line center. Right now they’ve got David Backes, who’s doing a nice job in that spot. Is it a better player that that. Who are the assets that they’re going to be willing to part with.

“So I think it’s very early in the regular season, but I think that there are a few teams at least who have at least put out word that they’re willing to listen and willing to look at maybe what some other clubs are considering parting with at some point in the season.”

Despite a horrible season opener agaisnt the Washington Capitals, the Bruins are now 4-1-0 through their first five starts. The 7-0 massacre at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup champions surely pushed them to prove their worth, but also notice what is missing in their lineup.

Getting a centreman on the trade market is always a difficult task, especially at this time in the season, however, knowing that they have interesting assets to offer in return could give the Bruins the edge and chance to make a change sooner rather than later.
