The Boston Bruins made quite the unexpected move on Thursday, when they place veteran forward Matt Beleskey on waivers.
Though the 29-year-old winger has had a rough campaign so far, recording no points at all in 14 games this season, he is still under contract with the Bruins for the following two years.
He has a cap hit of $3,8 millions until 2020.
That is what is so unexpected about this situation.
With his heavy price tag, it’s highly unlikely no one claims him off the wire. Beleskey could now end up in the minors with AHL's Providence, if no other rival team claims him before tomorrow.
However, he could earn his ice time and regain the confidence to fight for a position on the NHL roster.
