Canadian team GM informs rival clubs he wants to trade a forward!

The phone will be ringing quite a bit...

Of course when the new season kicks off and you have quite a few players on the injured reserve, you want to be able to count on depth to manage and don't fall behind early in the campaign during their absence. However, when these same players are ready to come back to action, a general manager needs to think quickly and decide if he will simply send players down to the American Hockey League or if he can pull a trade in the process.

It seems that one GM has decided on the latter as NHL insider Bob McKenzie of TSN reports that Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin has informed teams that he’s available for business in terms of possibly trading a forward. The season has been filled with ups and down for the Habs already. They have shown more offensive qualities than first expected, however last night during their home opener at the Bell Centre, they were blanked 3-0 by the Los Angeles Kings.

You can see some highlights from the game, in the video above.

Now it is believed that Bergevin is thinking about a potential trade because sidelined forwards Nicolas Deslauriers and Jacob de la Rose will be returning soon. On Thursday, Deslauriers skated with the team's healthy scratches, wearing a full cage as he recovers from the surgery and according to Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette, is 10-14 days away from being ready to return.

Nikita Scherbak and Tomas Plekanec have been healthy scratches and Bergevin might test the water to see if there would be a taker for one of them before demoting them. If he does, he would risk losing them to another club via waivers and might want to see first if he can get a draft pick or a minor leaguer in the transaction.

It remains to be seen what Bergevin decides to do with his depth up front, however, McKenzie predicts that he could test the trade market after informing rival teams that some of his players are now available.

If you were Bergevin, who would you place on the trade block? Would you pull the trigger or wait and see if you can simply demote one player?
