It’s been quite a whirlwind summer for Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin. After finally, FINALLY leading his Capitals to their first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history, it’s been a non-stop party for Ovechkin. Of course, we all remember the drunken adventure that Ovi and teammates set out on in the first 72 hours after their championship.
First up there was drunkenly serenading the DC faithful with a rendition of Queen’s “We are the Champions,” at a Washington Nationals game:
This, of course, was preceded by a Stanley Cup keg stand:
Then there was the iconic fountain embrace between Ovi and teammate T.J. Oshie:
And on, and on, and on, and on… the summer of Ovi never stops!
Last night, after spending a few days parading the Stanley Cup around his hometown of Moscow, Ovechkin elected to take in the World Cup Final match between France and Croatia. While there he managed to hook up with another champion, former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
Check out this snapshot, courtesy of Ovechkin’s official Instagram account:
How cool is that!? Look at the SIZE of Mcgregor’s fist compared to Ovechkins… For context, McGregor stands 5 foot, 9 inches and weights 155 pounds, whereas Ovechkin stands 6 foot, 3 inches and weights 235 pounds. Yowza.
Ovechkin wasn't the only NHL Russian superstar to take in the World Cup festivities, though. Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was also on hand to take in France's historic victory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was also on hand, as you might expect with Russia playing host to the world's biggest soccer tournament. He briefly met with McGregor himself and couldn't pass up the opportunity for a photo:

Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honored to attend such a landmark event alongside him. Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.
As you might expect, McGregor received heavy criticism for his praise of Putin, one of the world's most polarizing leaders. But, again as you might expect... McGregor couldn't care less.
