Just like the home team Nashville Predators, country music superstars Lady Antebellum had their shot in Nashville last night and they blew it. The country-pop group had a lyrical mishap during their performance of The Star Spangled Banner prior to last night’s Game 5 matchup between the Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets.
Charles Kelley kicked off the anthem for the first verse. Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood joined in with their harmonies on the second verse. However, as Kelley took over for the pair, he accidentally missed a line in the anthem, leaving Scott to jump in to sing the correct line, making a nice save. While it was a small blunder, under immense pressure, the trio pulled it together and nailed the anthem with their dulcet harmonies.
While typically moments like this are a cringe-worthy event, last night’s save by Scott makes it a must see event. Check it out:
Lady Antebellum is the sixth musical act to sing the national anthem in the Predatros’ 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs run. Country music fans have been treated to some absolutely superstars prior to puck drop lately with the likes of Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley and Maren Morris during the first round of the playoffs and Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley with Del McCoury during the second round.
For what it’s worth, Kelley, Scott and Haywood took to social media to address last night’s giant flub, poking fun at themselves along the way.
Welp. We’re human too y’all ?♂️?♀️?♂️ We’re still rooting for ya Preds!!! #smashville
You gotta feel for these guys… clearly no one ever plans to mess up the National Anthem. But you have to admit… that was a pretty good save. If only the Preds could have got that kind of save from goaltender Pekka Rinne last night…
The Preds were thoroughly outplayed by the Jets, resulting in a 6-2 Jets win and a 3-2 Jets series advantage. Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 38 saves, while Jets forward Kyle Connor scored two goals and three points, while the Jets cruised to a HUGE victory. One more win and the Jets are moving on to the Western Conference Final.
