According to a report from the Winnipeg Sun’s Paul Friesen, Winnipeg Jets backup goaltender Michael Hutchinson is expected to be place on the IR with a concussion.
Manitoba Moose starter Eric Comrie will be recalled to take Hutchinson’s spot as the Jets backup to starter Connor Hellebuyck. Then, of course, there’s still the injury to “would be” starter Steve Mason. The goaltending carousel in Winnipeg this season has been interesting to follow, with only Hellebuyck playing with any real consistency.
Still, you have to feel for Hutchinson. The 27-year-old is having a monster season in the AHL with the Moose, putting up a remarkable 1.95 GAA and .942 save percentage in 21 games. With the NHL’s trade deadline quickly approaching and with team’s in the hunt for goaltending depth, Hutchinson is a trade chip that Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff could play. That is… so long as Hutchinson is healthy. All the best, Hutch! Get well soon!
