Auston Matthews watch is in full effect. The Toronto Maple Leafs superstar forward has missed the team’s last two games with what head coach Mike Babcock has deemed an “upper body injury.”
Matthews took to the ice for about 20 minutes before his team practiced yesterday, and Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston managed to catch a sighting of the 20-year-old sniper out on the ice again today.
This has to be seen as encouraging news for Leafs fans. But the big question, “will he play tonight?”, remains unanswered. Babcock hasn’t ruled Matthews out yet entirely, but based on the lines at practice yesterday, don’t count on him playing.
UPDATE: Matthews has been ruled out of tonight's game.
