When the Edmonton Oilers made it to the second round of the playoff last spring, fans only expected better this season. However, they tallied an unimpressive 7-12-2 record through mid-November and things look gloomy for Edmonton as experts started talking about focusing on next season and even mentioning a potential rebuild.
Playing strong as of late, the Oilers might now be able to recover from their tough start to the season and make the playoffs. TSN's Mike Johnson is sure of it.
"There are huge expectations on Edmonton for the second half of the year," explained Johnson. "They've got Cam Talbot playing well once again, riding on a hot streak into the break, they have Connor McDavid - top ten in scoring, [...] Everything they were supposed to be doing all year long, they have started doing the last 10 games."
Edmonton has indeed picked it up of late. Todd McLellan’s team has gone 10-5-0 in their last 15 to climb back to an even 17-17-2 overall, four points out of contention.
"Given their expectations, I am going to keep a close eye on how they start post-Christmas break because they are there, ready to make a run and back into the playoffs."
The Oilers surely are dangerous and they seem to be trending in the right direction.
Let's keep an eye on it too!
