Kadri reveals why he fought Thornton and how he ended up with a chunk of beard in his hand

One of the most hilarious things to happen all season.

One of the funnier moments of the 2017-18 season, and certainly the funniest of the New Year happened at the very beginning of a matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the San Jose Sharks.

Joe Thornton and Nazem Kadri dropped the gloves right after the initial puck drop, and while the fight was less than spectacular, Kadri ended up with a souvenir that no one will forget about anytime soon.

Kadri accidentally tore off a chunk of Thornton's famous beard, and that story took over the night, as the Leafs would eventually go on to win the game in a shootout.

“I have no idea how it happened,” Kadri said, according to Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun. “I ended up with a piece of it in my hand. I thought I was a hockey player, not a barber.

“I didn’t mean to grab him there, but he’s a big boy (four inches taller, 30 pounds heavier), I couldn’t reach across his shoulder.”

He went on to explain how the fight was initiated.

“One thing led to another,” Kadri said. “I didn’t really expect that, but things happen. He asked me, he initiated. There was no backing down.”

You just know that if you challenge Kadri to a fight, the gloves will be dropped.
