Krug takes a stick to the family jewels, goes down hard

The Bruins defenseman was… well let’s just say he was in some serious discomfort.

In today’s 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug took a stick… well let’s just say it was below the belt.

Blackhawks forward Artem Anisimov gathered in a loose puck off a rebound from Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask and attempted to bury the puck past Rask, but somehow managed to flub his shot. The follow through added injury to insult though as it caught Bruins blue liner Krug right in the cherries… ouch.

Check it out:

Ouch… ouch, ouch. If at first you don’t see the contact, take your eyes off the puck and watch Anisimov’s stick. See it? Yeah… ouch.

Krug, as you might expect, left the game for “treatment”, but remarkably did return later in the game, but unfortunately for the Bruins they weren’t able to mount a comeback in today’s game.

Tough kid, indeed. It's one thing to get an eyebrow stitched up or to spit out a couple chiclets and return, but when it comes to matters below the belt... well we wouldn't blame Krug if he came out wearing goalie pants for the third period.

In all seriousness, the Bruins dodged a real bullet with Krug not getting injured on the play. The team is already without the services of Patrice Bergeron and star rookie Charlie McAvoy and there's also some real concern for Rask's health lately, as well. If the Bruins were to lose Krug, it would be a tough pill to swallow at this point of the season. In 62 games this season, the 26-year-old Krug leads all Bruins defensemen with 13 goals and 48 points.
