Patrik Laine expressed his deep love for the city he now calls home, Winnipeg, on Tuesday morning in an emotional letter published in the Players' Tribune. The young superstar talks about the tight community, stating there's the feeling that “everybody is your neighbor”.
He always took the opportunity to response to the surprising claim a few San Jose Sharks players made about in a video that recently went viral. In a Twitter video that has since been deleted, Sharks players Justin Braun, Tim Heed and Tomas Hertl tabbed Winnipeg as their least favouritre city to play in, and Braun even went as far to criticize it for having poor wifi.
Laine went on to say that it is in fact fine, claiming that it's actually “sick" and went on to ass that it is quite important to have strong wifi, and how it helps he and teammate Nikolaj Ehlers to play better online.
The 19-year-old also shares fascinating detail son his personal life, including his daily schedule and his admiration for teammates Ehlers, Blake Wheeler and Dustin Byfuglien. But he did point out that he has the best shot on the team.
But the love for Winnipeg can be felt throughout his entire letter as he claims there’s something special about BellMTS Place.
“So why are people hating on Winnipeg? I think maybe I know why they don’t like coming here. Maybe guys are too cold? Maybe this is a hard place to play because of our fans? I’ve only been to each NHL building a few times, but I know for sure — our rink is the loudest.”
“And I know that they get even louder in the spring. I remember I was on YouTube the year before I was drafted, and I found this video — “The Return of The Winnipeg WhiteOut.”It was really cool. Like, I got … what are they called … the goose pimples?”
The guy just makes you smile, as he also writes and reveals the reason behind his funky beard.
Winnipeg will be happy to know all this about this young star!
