In case you’re not up to date on Da Beauty League, allow us to fill you in. Da Beauty League is a Minnesota based summer pickup hockey league comprised mostly of former and current NHLers. While most players hail from the Minnesota area, anyone with the requisite skills is allowed to join. Notable NHLers playing in Da Beauty League this offseason include Vancouver Canucks super rookie Brock Boeser, Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Pittsburgh Penguins sniper Jake Guentzel, Toronto Maple Leafs defensemen Jake Gardiner and Justin Holl and a pair of Minnesota Wild forwards in Zach Parise and Erik Haula. There are literally a dozen or more NHL players playing in the shinny league, but it was defenseman Holl who stood out yesterday evening.

Check out this sweet toe drag and dangle from Holl from last night’s action:

That’s pretty smooth… who knew this kid had the moves!?

Leafs fans may remember that Holl burst onto the scene last season, scoring his first career goal just hours after getting called up from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

Check it out:

Not to be outdone Holl’s defense partner with the Marlies, Travis Dermott, also managed to pot his first NHL goal in the same game, the ninth of his NHL career.

Check it out:

What a goal… first the kid gains the zone, gets it deep, forces a turnover and goes to the net. That’s just old school, textbook hockey right there. What a workhorse.

With former Leafs blue liner Roman Polak now with the Dallas Stars, expect both Dermott and Holl to receive regular ice time with the Leafs in 2018-19. Of the two, the 21 year old Dermott probably has the most upside, as evidenced not only by this fantastic goal, but by his 13 points in 37 games played for the Leafs last season. He also managed a stellar 18 points in 28 games for the AHL Marlies.

As for Holl, the 26 year old blue liner led all Marlies defensemen with seven goal and 28 points in 60 games played. He managed two goals in his brief, two game stint with the Leafs back in January. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the native of Tonka Bay, Minnesota can nail down a full-time or even part-time spot with the Leafs in training camp next month.

One thing’s for sure though… these young Leafs players just continue to impress. Good things are on the way, Leafs fans.
