Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past week, you’ve no doubt heard the story of Scott Foster, the accountant turned NHL superstar on Thursday evening. In attendance at Chicago’s United Center as a third string option for either team the 36 year old former NCAA goalie who now plays beer league rec hockey in Chicago was forced into action when Chicago Blackhawks goalies Anton Forsberg and Collin Delia went down with injury.
Foster was perfect through 14 minutes making seven saves and preserving victory for the Blackhawks over the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Foster made some big saves and even earned himself first star honors for his efforts. In short, it was an incredible and historic moment not only just for Foster but for every single over the hill beer league player in history…
The NHL has been buzzing with reaction to Foster’s incredible evening and one superstar, Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo, couldn’t help himself from chiming in on social media last night.
First, Vegas Golden Knights sniper William Karlsson scored perhaps the goal of the year in last night’s victory over the San Jose Sharks, check it out:
Wow… through the legs, top shelf! Of course, Luongo couldn’t help himself tweeting out:
“Scott Foster stops that while filing his client’s tax returns.”
Wooooooow! How’s that for a top shelf chirp? We love it. Keep being a beauty, Lui.
For what it's worth, the Panthers were demolished by the Boston Bruins last night 5-1, with Luongo being forced to watch from the bench as the backup to James Reimer. Luongo was eventually pressed into action after Reimer got the hook, but it was too little too late for the Panthers whose playoff hopes are now in serious jeopardy after dropping their last three games. They're now five points back of the New Jersey Devils who seem to have a stranglehold on the final Stanley Cup Playoff Wild Card Spot in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers do have a game in hand over the Devils, but a win there will still bring them to just within three points. Something's got to give.
